Heidegger's critique of metaphysics is well-known, resulting of the conception the end of philosophy. For the author, thought announces itself poetically, through the pen of poets who sensed and felt what should be thought. This new era of Being, in the future, would be in preparation, and it is towards this task that his post-turn thinking is directed, on the confluent path of Poetry and Philosophy. In this article, we revisit a rare text in the Heideggerian bibliography, composed in verse (...) and aphorism in 1947, "On the Experience of Thinking" ("Aus der Erfahrung des Denkens"), seeking to reflect on how the understanding of experience present in this text is linked to the focus on poetize and poets present in many Heideggerian texts in the following years, suggesting that thought (as a to poetize and to philosophy) evokes a radical experience in relation to Metaphysics: passivity, as waiting and listening in a topology of Being. Em uma síntese emergente na neurociência contemporânea, uma certa noção de metaestabilidade ocupaum papel central. Iniciando por situar a importação do conceito de metaestabilidade da teoria de sistemas dinâmicose da mecânica estatística de redes complexas para essa síntese teórica na neurociência, buscamos uma aproximaçãocom a formação do conceito de plasticidade cerebral na obra de Catherine Malabou. Em seguida, exploramos algumasdas consequências de uma nova ficção ou relato neurocientífico, baseado nessa síntese e proposto principalmente porKarl Friston. Esse relato inclui, além das (...) noções de metaestabilidade e plasticidade, uma tentativa de fundamentaçãoneurobiológica de concepções metapsicológicas a partir da dinâmica de redes neurais. O presente texto é oriundo da disciplina “Ontologia e Ciências Humanas: O Kant de Heidegger”, ministrada pelos professores Gustavo Silvano Batista e Eduardo José Marandola Junior entre janeiro e fevereiro de 2024, no Programa de Pós-Graduação Interdisciplinar (ICHSA) da Faculdade de Ciências Aplicadas (FCA) da Unicamp no campus de Limeira-SP. Nele procuro analisar no segundo Heidegger em sua crítica pós-metafísica, portanto após a sua discussão sobre a metafísica kantiana, a maturação da ideia do Dasein. Nessa leitura específica de (...) Heidegger destaco o momento, apesar de não conclusivo, em que o Ser aparece como um ser-com, no qual vislumbro a possibilidade de diálogo, de encontro com outras percepções de mundo, entre elas, a oralidade na perspectiva de Amadou Hampaté Bâ. Com isso indico que apesar dos nítidos distanciamentos existem campos proximais, nos quais para a tradição oral ocorre o interesse pelo outro, o que estabelece a base necessária para que a palavra aconteça. Para explorar las diferencias significativas entre estos dos pensadores, la primera parte de este articulo considerará sus ideas ontológicas. Comenzando con su preocupación común por la multiplicidad, exploraremos el movimiento fundacional de Deleuze hacia diferentes tipos de multiplicidad. La crítica de Badiou a este enfoque estará relacionada con su defensa de los recursos abstractos de la teoría de conjuntos en oposición a las síntesis concretas con las que Deleuze busca comenzar. La segunda parte de este documento explorará las consecuencias de (...) los compromisos ontológicos de Deleuze cuando se trata de la ética del acontecimiento exigido por Badiou. El compromiso de Deleuze con el estoicismo proporcionará el escenario para su explicación de cómo ocurren los acontecimientos y representa una fuente de pensamiento y actividad. En la tercera y última parte se buscará evaluar la explicación de Deleuze sobre el papel de los acontecimientos en situaciones particulares y en las actividades de los sujetos que responden a estos. Esto nos permitirá sacar conclusiones sobre la crítica de Badiou a Deleuze y la capacidad de Deleuze para resistir estas críticas. Argumentaré que Deleuze comparte con Badiou la preocupación de mantener una visión clara del tema como una figura comprometida en la búsqueda de proyectos nuevos e inauditos que responden al llamado de los acontecimientos. This book explains how the logic of theory change employs formal models in the investigation of changes in belief states and databases. The topics covered include equivalent characterizations of AGM operations, extended representations of the belief states, change operators not included in the original framework, iterated change, applications of the model, its connections with other formal frameworks, and criticism of the model.

In this note we shall argue that Milne’s new effort does not refute Truthmaker Maximalism. According to Truthmaker Maximalism, every truth has a truthmaker. Milne has attempted to refute it using the following self-referential sentence M: This sentence has no truthmaker. Essential to his refutation is that M is like the Gödel sentence and unlike the Liar, and one way in which Milne supports this assimilation is through the claim that his proof is essentially object-level and not semantic. In Section (...) 2, we shall argue that Milne is still begging the question against Truthmaker Maximalism. In Section 3, we shall argue that even assimilating M to the Liar does not force the truthmaker maximalist to maintain the ‘dull option’ that M does not express a proposition. There are other options open and, though they imply revising the logic in Milne’s reasoning, this is not one of the possible revisions he considers. In Section 4, we shall suggest that Milne’s proof requires an implicit appeal to semantic principles and notions. In Section 5, we shall point out that there are two important dissimilarities between M and the Gödel sentence. Section 6 is a brief summary and conclusion. (shrink)

Abstract:This paper develops a framework for examining decision making about ethical issues and tests the applicability of a social contract perspective. Using two separate samples of students and salespeople, we determine that community members (salespeople) tend to judge a potentially unethical act to constitute a violation of an implicit social contract and non-community members (students) do not. Also, consistent with the emphasis on context specificity of integrative social contracts theory, situational variables influence perceptions of ethicality for the community members, but (...) do not affect the perceptions of individuals outside the community. The study finds considerable support for the use of a social contractarian perspective in the study of decision-making processes about ethical issues. (shrink)

French naturalists at the Muséum Nationale d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris in the early nineteenth century recognized that their individual and collective successes were intimately linked to questions of power over specimens. France’s strength abroad affected the growth of the museum’s collections. At the museum, preserving, naming, classifying, displaying, interpreting, and otherwise deploying specimens went hand in hand with promoting scientific theories, advancing scientific careers, and instructing the public. The control of specimens, both literally and figuratively, was the museum’s ongoing concern. (...) The leopard in this essay’s title, a live specimen confiscated from the streets of Paris in 1793, serves here to represent the tensions created in an existing order of things by the introduction of a potentially disruptive agent. The essay explores the life of the museum and the interrelations among its naturalists, the special challenges created by the establishment of a menagerie, and the histories of particular specimens and ideas. Pragmatics is the theory of conversation; more specifically, pragmatics is the discipline that studies linguistic rationality. This concept has to be interpreted as the instrumental coherence betweencommunicative goals and means. Therefore, pragmatics is essentially about the relations of relevance between utterances and contexts, understanding these as sets of beliefs held by the speaker and eventually shared by the hearer, and not as the set of objective features surrounding communicative interaction.

La noción de verdad ha sido siempre el tesoro de la filosofía, su objeto de estudio y debate durante siglos, sin embargo, en la actualidad hay numerosas perspectivas que ofrecen respuestas innovadoras a la relación entre verdad, conocimiento y realidad, pero ninguna de ellas tiene una claridad abrumadora como la que nos ofrece la filosofía de Alain Badiou. Es que no se queda en poner su postura frente al debate, sino que resuelve lo que a las otras perspectivas les faltaba. (...) El tema abordado en este artículo es relevante al menos por tres razones: en primer lugar, porque al tocar la relación entre verdad, conocimiento y realidad en Badiou se vuelve sobre un lugar clásico dentro de la tradición filosófica, en segundo lugar, porque, al plantear el problema, no solo se queda en el campo de la filosofía sino que ronda el debate actual en múltiples campos los que denomina procedimientos genéricos de verdades, en tercer lugar, porque se intenta explorar las relaciones entre verdad y conocimiento en la filosofía de Badiou, algo no muy frecuente en los estudios badiousianos. O objetivo do artigo é indicar que na crítica a Fichte em Fé e saber, referida à noção de crença de Jacobi, já se pode vislumbrar dentro de certos limites e desvios a posição de Hegel nas Lições sobre a história da filosofia sobre o vínculo entre Schelling e Jacobi no que diz respeito às noções de intuição intelectual e saber imediato.

O objetivo do artigo é apresentar alguns aspectos das reflexões de Franklin Leopoldo e Silva sobre a presença da filosofia na educação básica no Brasil. Nesse intento, também analisaremos algumas considerações suas sobre o ideal de formação no ensino superior.

Este artigo busca extrair algumas conseqüências da pandemia da covid-19 para a filosofia no Brasil. A partir de algumas questões que a doença levanta para a humanidade e para o país busca-se identificar algumas tarefas inerentes à reflexão filosófica, ao mesmo tempo em que se pretende apontar o que essa situação coloca como novo e urgente para a filosofia no Brasil.

The article analyses innovative ethno-geographical systems of the first century BC. During Hellenistic times, the science of geography made use of increasingly advanced mathematical and astronomical skills to ensure a scientific basis for the cartographical project; however, this geographical research apparently disregarded the natural and human environments. There is a paradigm change in the referred century. The Stoic Posidonius focuses on the concept of zones found in the early philosophers and finds a compromise between the ‘scientific’ and the ‘descriptive’ geographies. (...) Verificou-se que, embora haja uma série de publicações contextualizando o pensamento de Rousseau no debate contemporâneo sobre a filosofia ambiental, a participação de seu pensamento é ainda diminuta. Relacionaram-se então alguns conceitos fundamentais da ecologia radical contemporânea com a filosofia rousseauniana. Constatou-se que ambos procedem a uma crítica radical do antropocentrismo, propondo, como alternativa, um ecocentrismo. Concentrou-se no conceito de “valor intrínseco” da natureza e suas implicações éticas no relacionamento entre homem e ambiente. No caso de Rousseau essa relação se (...) desenvolve por meio de uma profunda análise das paixões amor-de-si e amor-próprio. Constatou-se que tanto a ecologia radical como Rousseau não acreditam na possibilidade de uma volta ao estado de natureza, porém é possível recuperar a experiência feliz da ligação com a totalidade da vida, que esse estado proporcionava aos homens. A recuperação somente pode ocorrer em outro registro, em meio à civilização e à tecnologia. Mostrou-se a importância da estratégia rousseauniana nessa questão ao propor a expansão do amor-próprio até uma dimensão de totalidade, recuperando dessa forma a possibilidade de uma vida feliz e significativa. Entretanto, tanto Rousseau como os partidários da ecologia radical consideram as dificuldades em se realizar tanto a experiência da totalidade como da vida ética na relação entre homem e natureza, dada as condições da contemporaneidade. Pp. x + 252. $24.95, hardcover.Thomas Rickert had a falling-out with his brother, and this distresses him so much that his disrupted relation is described as “traumatic.” Rickert reports that while listening (...) to a portable CD player during a run on an unexpectedly warm winter day, a song by the now defunct jazz/rock band Morphine reminded him of a happy time at a pool hall with his brother (24). Mediated—or better, medicated—by music, the homological happiness of running in the sun and a positive past memory also resurfaced a painful relational rupture, the reason of which Rickert omits to underscore that mysterious, “little detail or object” of the Real that marks his singular finitude as a writing subject (216 n. 11). We’ll want to come back to this curiously deliberate omission, but for the present we note Rickert is not simply an undead author but a human being with relations and feelings. He is not just a gifted scholar or a bundle of reflections, but a nexus of body and movement and words and affect. If there is anything that Rickert’s study can be said to work through with brilliance, humor, and grace, it is the reality of complex personhood.Rickert’s brotherly confession comes in Chapter 1 as a way to introduce a psychoanalytic understanding of subjectivity, and more specifically, to help illustrate how trauma works itself out as an afterwardness or “belatedness” ( Nachträglichkeit ): traumatic events from the past are not reckoned with or worked-through until some coincidence or reminder, such as a similar [End Page 183] sensory experience, reintroduces the event in doubled re-presentation (18–27). This implies the “subject” (a paradigm person) is a kind of timedelay, a self-conscious temporal moving that becomes this way through re-presentation. The rhetorical subject is analogously a retrojected reckoning with events past (not all traumatic) that Rickert identifies as a scene of writing, a locus that has important implications for rhetorical studies in general and writing pedagogy in particular. Rickert’s logic is as follows: if we agree that the subject is a belated one in the psychoanalytic sense, then how we teach rhetoric needs to change. Rickert opens the book with the observation that his students are producing excellent cultural critiques but that such critiques do not lead the students to change their actions (1–7), perhaps evidence enough that something is not quite right in a classroom grounded by “cultural studies pedagogy” and ideology critique—or at the very least, proof that something has changed. The opening gambit is simply that a “postpedagogy” premised on an understanding of rhetorical subjectivity as belatedness is better than a status quo rooted in the rational subject of the Enlightenment.Mostly through a Žižek-filtered, Lacanian lens, Acts of Enjoyment then undertakes a retake of the rhetorical field, frequently scanning from the traumatic ontology of the rhetorical subject to that domain of knowledge that we hold dear, the subject of rhetoric. In Chapter 2, the (primal) scene thus shifts from the slo-mo subject to rhetorical studies, initially through a reassessment of Kinneavy’s “communications triangle,” but ultimately in response to the shock treatment of poststructuralism. The initial theoretical traumas introduced by Victor Vitanza, Diane Davis, Sharon Crowley, and others discussed in Chapter 1 are threaded into an account of “poststructural” redress in Chapter 2: as is true of all forms of trauma, the initial poststructural jolt delivered to the concept of subjectivity was deadened; poststructural theory was eventually used to “shore up rather than challenge Kinneavy’s triangle” (37). To truly work-through our traumatized subject in both senses, we need a second trauma: Lacanian psychoanalysis. Presumably, “poststructuralist thought” is to be opposed because it has no account of the subject (21–24); “Lacan,” after all, “is not a poststructuralist” (48). This paper is a reply to Benjamin Smart’s : 319–332, 2013) recent objections to David Armstrong’s solution to the problem of induction : 503–511, 1991). To solve the problem of induction, Armstrong contends that laws of nature are the best explanation of our observed regularities, where laws of nature are dyadic relations of necessitation holding between first-order universals. Smart raises three objections against Armstrong’s pattern of inference. First, regularities can explain our observed regularities; that is, universally quantified conditionals are required (...) for explanations. Second, if Humean’s pattern of inference is irrational, then Armstrong’s pattern of inference is also irrational. Third, universal regularities are the best explanation of our observed regularities. I defend Armstrong’s solution of induction, arguing against these three claims. (shrink)

Let me attempt a drastic summary, or symbolic reduction, of Mr. Foss's adeptly metaphorical exposition. The use of the copula is, implicit in the appositive series, will do some violence to the complexity of the argument, but since causes and parts are frowned on by the same argument, the simpler arrangement cannot be altogether out of keeping. In logical and grammatical terms, we have on two sides of a profound ledger: "symbolic reduction," the divisive subject and predicate,--and "metaphoric process," the (...) underlying and unifying energy of the proposition, the subjectum. The negations of dialectic operate to show the insufficiency of symbolic concepts and are the "door to philosophic truth." And in ontological terms, we have on the one hand number, time, space, cause and effect, coincidence and contingency; and on the other the different, the naught, the apeiron, the potential, the tension of process, freedom and necessity in metaphoric lawful unity. There are two closely similar extremes of reduction between which one locates the transcendent philosophy of metaphor: that of sensationalism, the philosophy of the brute and atomic, and that of rationalism, the philosophy of expedient action. And in more or less theological terms, we have on the one hand the environment and its complement the ego, purposive and possessive; on the other, World, the I and the Thou, prayer, sin and grace in the metaphorical unity of consciousness, the widening power of personality in intercession or metaphorical representation. On the one hand, birth and death, past and future, and a present extending ad libitum into either; on the other, the eternal present of the integrated process stretching over past and future, expressed in its purest form in art. And so in aesthetic terms: on the one hand catharsis, a rationalized mixture of the ego's pleasure and pain, asceticism and hedonism, play; on the other, drama--especially tragedy, which par excellence action--Eudaimonia, purification, artistic distance, stylization, imagination, conscience, love. On the one hand, comedy in the sense of farce, environment symbolically reduced, actions and persons according to type, the mechanism of means and ends, rules, rituals, tricks, chance, the caricature of symbolic fixation--producing laughter: on the other hand, true and great comedy, the attempt to understand life in all its contradictions, producing the smile. This paper defends the Quine-Putnam mathematical indispensability argument against two objections raised by Penelope Maddy. The objections concern scientific practices regarding the development of the atomic theory and the role of applied mathematics in the continuum and infinity. I present two alternative accounts by Stephen Brush and Alan Chalmers on the atomic theory. I argue that these two theories are consistent with Quine’s theory of scientific confirmation. I advance some novel versions of the indispensability argument. I argue that these new (...) versions accommodate Maddy’s history of the atomic theory. Counter-examples are provided regarding the role of the mathematical continuum and mathematical infinity in science. (shrink)

Nessa articulação multidisciplinar na qual buscava traçar a genealogia da sociabilidade humana, a figura de Homero é destacada pelo autor ao identificar nos poemas homéricos os dois grandes tesouros da gentilidade. No seu opus magnum, a Scienza Nuova, dedica ao terceiro livro ''Sulla discoverta del Vero Omero'' uma análise detalhada acerca dos poemas homéricos e sua (...) relação com as etapas do desenvolvimento do mundo grego, onde busca objetos que comprovem a veracidade histórica de Homero assim como de seus escritos. Portanto, a finalidade deste artigo é descrever o percurso argumentativo usado por Vico para investigar o poeta grego e seus poemas épicos. (shrink)

A pesquisa analisou os possíveis impactos da aplicação de uma sequência didática envolvendo o aplicativo (app) Telegram à prática pedagógica sob a perspectiva da aprendizagem significativa. Este estudo foi desenvolvido no Mestrado Profissional em Educação Profissional e Tecnológica (ProfEPT) em sua linha de pesquisa “Práticas Educativas em Educação Profissional e Tecnológica (EPT). Nesse estudo aplicado de abordagem qualitativa aplicaram-se dois questionários semiestruturados: um aos estudantes da disciplina de empreendedorismo e outro aos docentes do Curso Técnico em Administração no CEDUP Guaramirim. (...) Complementarmente, optou-se para análise dos dados a análise textual discursiva (ATD), categorizando-os pelos conteúdos, procedimentos e atitudes relevantes à prática pedagógica. Ao consolidar os dados, questionou-se: Como o app Telegram pode ser envolvido à prática pedagógica de forma que contribua para uma aprendizagem significativa? Em resposta a indagação, elaborou-se um produto educacional no formato de uma sequência didática, como instrumento que integrou os conhecimentos prévios aos interesses pedagógicos dos discentes, com os desafios e competências docentes envolvendo a TDIC. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram que a participação discente ao incorporar o app Telegram no processo de planejamento e aplicação da prática pedagógica contribuiu para uma aprendizagem democrática, autônoma, criativa e significativa. Mathematical proofs aim to establish the truth of mathematical propositions by means of logical rules. Some recent literature in philosophy of mathematics alleges that some mathematical proofs also reveal why the proved mathematical propositions are true. These mathematical proofs are called explanatory mathematical proofs. In this paper, I present and discuss some salient problems around mathematical explanation: the existence problem, the normative problem, the explanandum problems of truth value and psychological value, the logical structure problem, the regress problem and the (...) modelling problem. At the end, I sum up two contemporary models for mathematical explanation – the deductive-nomological model and the model of Steiner. I analyse these models against the previous problems. (shrink)
